In May of 2019, our founders’ lives were forever changed by an unimaginable tragedy. Their beloved daughter, Evie, only 12 years old, lost her battle with the hidden struggles of emotional turmoil and took her own life. The pain they felt seemed insurmountable, but from that darkness, Michael and Jessica Domingos found the strength to create Tiny Evie Rocks, a spark of hope that would evolve into a movement.
In their grief, they made a powerful choice: to transform heartbreak into action, to prevent others from experiencing the same pain that shattered their world. What began as a small act of love in Evie’s memory soon grew into a mission to bring light, hope, and understanding to our community.
Over the years, our organization expanded to equip individuals with life-saving intervention skills through programs such as Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and AS+K About Suicide to Save A Life Gatekeeper Training. These workshops empower people to recognize warning signs, engage in compassionate conversations, and connect those in need to essential support.
But we didn’t stop there. Recognizing the unique power of music to heal, inspire, and unite, we began organizing music-centric events. These events bring our community together to celebrate life, share stories, learn, and raise awareness about the strength we all have within. Through Evie Rocks Tyler and other initiatives, we create a place where people find belonging and hope, wrapped in the universal language of music.
Our journey has been transformative, and each step forward is a tribute to Evie’s memory. Tiny Evie Rocks became a way of honoring her and evolved into The Evie Effect—a beacon of hope, resilience, and change in our community. Through our programs, events, and unwavering dedication, we honor Evie’s spirit by fostering understanding, spreading awareness, and empowering everyone to make a difference.
We know that even the smallest actions can spark a ripple effect that leads to big change. It’s in that one moment, that single choice or word, that lasting impact can take root.
In 2023, Tiny Evie Rocks became The Evie Effect. What started as a small nonprofit has grown into a powerful movement to reduce suicide rates and promote mental wellness in our community. East Texas has one of the highest suicide rates in the state, and we are dedicated to changing that.
Though the pain of losing Evie will always remain, we’ve transformed it into a force for good. Every life saved, every heart healed, and every flicker of hope kindled in the shadows reminds us of our purpose. Together, we are building a world where inner strength matters, where no one suffers alone, and where every young person finds the support they need to overcome their darkest moments. Evie’s legacy lives on through The Evie Effect, showing us the power of love, resilience, and the belief that even in the face of tragedy, hope will always find a way.
